this release, aptly named ‘verglas’ after the french word for “a thin sheet of frost”, draws from cool, muted tones in the indigo spectrum; from red violets, to deep purples, to navy, it draws heavily from the flowers of the southwest, which only bloom for a few months out of the year. like datura itself, these delicate beautiful flowers are often misleading and clothe darker things. from this we’ve created a small release reflecting that mindset and hope that wearing these reminds you that just because you’re cute doesn’t mean you aren’t powerful.

do you offer mens/womens sizes?

yes and no. our line is unisex but utilizes, it its upcycled clothing, “mens” pieces (jeans, tshirts, etc) unless specifically requested otherwise. we encourage everyone to break the gender binary, acknowledge clothing is ultimately cloth, and know that whatever they’re ordering will fit comfortably so long the sizing information given is accurate. there is no upcycled clothing in this release, however, so be sure to specify upon giving sizes if you mean mens or womens (i.e. in the case of shoes, etc).

what are the ethics behind your clothing manufacturing?

“deernoise” makes all of the clothing, either from scratch, or upcycled— for instance, jeans are purchased almost exclusively as vintage levis. there are a few things, for the sake of uniform merchandise and hygiene, purchased new; for instance, the shoes and tshirts. she is very passionate about being green and minimizing waste and is very against unsafe and thoughtless mass-manufacturing, and all of her purchases are made with this in mind.

“hey guys,
as you may or may not know, depending on whether or not you follow my main blog deerhoof, i’ve been having a lot of trouble recieving my sweatshirts from my wholesale retailer (http://www.tansclub.com/). this recently escalated to where i threatened to sue because they had not sent me anything after promising to for three weeks, and finally stated that THEIR supplier was out for up to 6mo and it was perfectly within their rights to withhold their product until then and i had no grounds to sue them.
i had a friend call at one point because i was tired of dealing with it myself and when he left a message, they called back and said they had no history of the order and to have the person who actually “placed” the order call. this is getting maddening, but i gave them almost $400 and i don’t have the money to immediately purchase new ones elsewhere AND send out the orders, which i already am eating about $30 a bundle to ship out.

needless to say, i fucked up. royally. and that’s not your responsibility. and i feel terrible that you’re having to suffer for my inexperience. so here’s what i’m going to do:

i’m taking a small piece of my current funds and purchasing a very small amount of supplies for my fall line (literally JUST ENOUGH to make one of each piece, or a ‘floor model’; this shouldn’t be more than $40)
i am opening preorders for the fall line in july with intentions of it being shipped out in late august or september
i am using part of that to purchase more sweatshirts and send them to you

where this email comes in is giving you a choice: i can either hold your order UNTIL july when i get more sweatshirts, or i can send you your order now and send you your sweatshirt separately, which if you’re going to say “whichever!” is probably the option i’m going to take because i want people to get their products for you know, summer.

multiple people have received their individual orders (just a backpack, jsut a tshirt, etc) and if you want to contact them to make sure they’ve gotten their things and prove i’m not just ripping you off, you’re free to. if you don’t follow the line on tumblr, you can do so here: daturaclothing.tumblr.com
and see the mounds and mounds of fabric, beanies, backpacks, etc i’ve been sewing. i care deeply about making sure everyone is pleased and i’m so, so sorry for all of this. if i could offer refunds i would but i’ve already sunk about $800 into supplies and countless hours in labour and i really can’t do that at this point, but is a discussable option if you’re willing to wait up to two months.

i know i really fucked up, i know, and i feel so awful about it. i didn’t research anything before hand and i messed up. i didn’t appropriately prepare and then i had a two-week stint where i was trapped on the east coast because of a death and i could do literally nothing. this has been a learning experience needless to say and i know for a fact i will never, ever let this happen again.

rucksacks - the size of a medium backpack, made from a durable thick knit. small pocket on front and pocket on the inside. drawstring. upcycled leather accents. no additional information needed. $15

shoes - dipdyed canvas slip ons with rubber soles. send colour and US size, specifying men or women’s. $22

sweatshirt - sweatshirt made to size with shoulder accents. send US shirt size, specifying men or women’s. alternative fabric can be used for accents upon request. $25

shorts and slacks - corduroy cut offs or slacks with a contrast pocket. levi jeans in light blue and black are also available for $5 more. specify inseam (how long you want them to be), colour (corduroy, black, or light blue), and waist size in US men’s sizes. $18/$23

t shirts - gradient fade t-shirt available in v neck and crew neck. send US shirt size in men’s, colour choice, and crew or v neck cut. $12/purchase three and get the 4th for free

beanies - regular beanies with Datura label on the inside for the fold. send information specifying colour — black, navy, green, burgundy, or marigold, and light blue denim or pictured patterned fabric for label. $8
